Troop 712 is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church, and we meet in their fellowship hall on Wednesday evenings. The boys in our Troop are in sixth grade through twelth grade. We do service projects for the church. One service project we do is The Glory Grille, which is when we serve a free lunch to the community. Another service project is to clean up around the church property.
When you start in Boy Scouts you get the rank of Scout. After you earn the required amout of Merit Badges and service hours, you advance to the rank of Tenderfoot, then the rank of Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and then Eagle. The rank of Eagle, is the highest honor, and two current members of our troop are Eagle Scouts. Also some members of our troop have been voted into the Order of the Arrow. The Order of the Arrow is the honor society of scouting.
Our troop does a lot of events, such as summer camp for one week, a winter camp-out for a weekend, and one day hikes. This year was the One Hundredth Anniversary of Scouting and our troop participated at the Campaganza. The Campaganza was a weekend at Moraine State Park, where ten thousand scouts got together for a good time to celebrate scouting. On our outings we learn many life skills such as, how to cook outdoors, tying knots, and how to use knives, axes, and saws. For more information about events check out the Events page.
